Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, Aug. 31: At 8:08 pm Jefferson police, fire and street department assisted several residents in the city off Jefferson with multiple downed trees, limbs and power lines.
Saturday, Aug. 30: At 11:31 am Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St) reported a gas drive off. At 12:01 pm a traffic stop resulted in the arrest of Beth Renee Perdue of Jefferson for driving while barred*. At 2:32 pm a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 200 block of W. Washington Street. A theft of a car stereo was reported. At 6:43 pm an officer located criminal mischief at Washington Park.
Friday, Aug. 29: At 8:49 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office requested assistance with a possible domestic situation in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Aug. 27: At 11:35 am an officer arrested Tara Surrell, 23, of Jefferson on an outstanding warrant out of Blackhawk County for probation revocation*. At 6:20 pm a complainant reported harassment to an officer which had occurred at a residence in the 300 block of E. McKinley Street. An officer has cited Kelsey Gross, 24, of Jefferson, with disorderly conduct*. Gross is accused of striking the vehicle window of a passing motorist in the 100 block of N. Chestnut Street on Aug. 23.
Wednesday, Aug. 27: At 9:23 am criminal mischief was reported to picnic tables at the Paul Nally Park on N. Olive Street. Approximately $450 in damage was done due to someone jumping on top of the tables. At 10:31 am an officer was requested at the Greene County middle school for a student that was damaging a room. The officer took a 10-year-old male into custody and he was transported to the Greene County LEC where he was released to his parents. The student had torn drywall off the walls and damaged a door and a window, causing an estimated $2,000 in damage to the room. The student has been charged with criminal mischief – second degree (class D felony) and was referred to Juvenile Court Services. At 12:12 pm a complainant reported a theft at a residence in the 400 block of N. Locust St. At 7:10 pm a complainant reported being approached by a dog that was reported to be snarling at her at W. Reed and N. Pinet St. The officer was unsuccessful in contacting the complainant to find out any details. The incident remains under investigation.
Tuesday, Aug. 26: At 7:33 pm the city code enforcement officer reported a complaint of illegal burning at a residence in the 500 block of W. State Street. The officer spoke to the resident regarding the issue and cited him for violating the open burning ordinance. City ordinance only allows for yard waste to be burned within the city limits. On July 31, 2014, an officer was contacted by the Ames police department regarding identity theft. As a result of that investigation, an officer determined a burglary had occurred at a residence in the 400 block of W. Brackett St. Checks, a debit card and credit cards were taken from the residence. Transactions were made in Boone, Ames and Des Moines without the permission of the owner. Subsequently, search warrants were executed on Aug. 9 at 1003 W. Wall St and at 1400 Southfield Drive in connection with the case. As a result, Hayley Lynn Brown, 21, of Jefferson has been charged with burglary (class D felony), ongoing criminal conduct (class B felony), two counts of forgery class D felony), 12 counts of unlawful use of a credit card (aggravated misdemeanor), identity theft (aggravated misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of a prescription drug (serious misdemeanor)*. Charges are pending for an additional person at this time. Pursuant to a complaint of a car burglary in the 600 block of N. Chestnut St on Aug. 25, an officer has issued an arrest warrant charging Nastassia Chanel Goff, 29, of Jefferson with burglary (aggravated misdemeanor)*. Goff is accused of entering a vehicle, taking a winning scratch off ticket and a Kindle Fire without the owner’s permission. Goff is then accused of cashing the winning lottery ticket at a local convenience store.
Monday, Aug. 25: At 8:05 am an employee at Jefferson Monument Works reported criminal mischief to a monument that had been knocked over and damaged between since noon Saturday. At 8:55 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to two windows on a construction trailer at the Hy-Vee building site. At 11:53 am a complainant reported a burglary to a vehicle at a residence in the 400 block of N. Chestnut St. An investigation was initiated and charges are pending at this time.
Sunday, Aug. 24: At 2:27 am an officer assisted the Jefferson fire department with a house fire at 206 E. Washington St. At 10:50 am a complainant reported identity theft. Unauthorized purchases had been made on a credit card. At 1:55 pm a complainant reported ongoing harassment by another female which had occurred at Kum & Go. At 1:55 pm a complainant reported harassment while visiting someone in the 1100 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Saturday, Aug. 23: At 8:30 am the Dallas County Department of Human Services reported a sexual assault to a 11-year-old female that occurred in Jefferson and a residence in Grand Junction. An investigation was initiated. At 7:45 pm a complainant reported an assault that was to have occurred at Doc’s Stadium. At 11:45 pm a complainant reported a female had punched the window of her car while she was driving in the 100 block of N. Chestnut Street. The incident remains under investigation.
Friday, Aug. 22: At 8:52 pm a complainant reported a hit and run accident in the Greene County High School parking lot. A 1994 Honda Moped owned by Jamie Day had been parked in a parking stall when a white Chevrolet pickup with a topper backed into it and knocked it over. The driver then left the scene without reporting the incident. Day’s moped sustained $250 in damage. The incident remains under investigation.
Thursday, Aug. 21: At 6:02 pm officers responded to a backing accident at Chestnut St and Lincoln Way. Kim Roeder of Jefferson had parked on the north side of Lincoln Way in the first parking stall west of Chestnut St. She attempted to back out of the stall but struck the right side of a west bound vehicle driven by Tiffany Kinnetz of Gowrie. Roeder told the officers she hadn’t seen Kinnetz. Roeder was cited for unsafe backing onto the roadway. Damage to her 2006 Mercury Mountaineer was estimated at $300. Damage to the vehicle Kinnetz was driving, a 2000 Ford Windstar owned by Karen Roe of Harcourt, was estimated at $200.
Wednesday, Aug. 20: At 10:45 am officers assisted the Jefferson fire department with the report of smoke in a house at 306 N. Locust Street. At 9:18 pm a complainant reported a male at the Redwood Motel pointing a gun at several people. The officer arrived and spoke to the complainant outside one of the rooms. As the officer spoke to the complainant and the male’s roommate outside the room, he looked through the partially open door and observed a male standing in the room pointing a loaded gun at the doorway the officer was standing in. The officer ordered the male to put the weapon down. The male complied and was taken into custody. Jameson Todd Ross, 22, of Runnels,was charged with assault and carrying weapons, both aggravated misdemeanors, and public intoxication-first offense*. Ross was booked into the Greene County jail. At a result of a complaint initiated Aug. 17 at Doc’s Stadium, Otto Oathout of Jefferson has been charged with unlawful use of a license*.
Tuesday, Aug. 19: At 3:58 pm an officer was requested at city hall for a male that was causing a disturbance with city staff. An additional call was received from the clerk of court office regarding similar activity at the courthouse. Upon speaking with the male, the officer could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. Richard Charles Burkhardt, 45, of Jefferson, was arrested and charged with public intoxication – third or subsequent offense and disorderly conduct*. At 9:58 pm a Humboldt County deputy sheriff requested an officer’s assistance in identifying the owner of a boat found washed up on the east fork of the Des Moines River in their county. The officer found the registered owner had sold the boat and is following up on the request.

Sunday, Aug. 17: An employee at Doc’s Stadium reported an underage male had presented false identification when asked for identification the night prior. Charges are pending at this time. An officer has cited Amelia Kennedy with keeping of a vicious animal*. The citation was issued after a pit bull was deemed vicious on Aug. 7 in the 500 block of N. Oak Street after it was alleged the pit bull had attacked a neighboring dog. The pit bull was to have been removed from the community until the owners of the animal could become compliant with the vicious animal ordinance. The owners of the animal failed to become compliant with the requirements of the ordinance and allowed the animal to remain at the residence. Warrants have been issued charging Stephen Patrick Genovese, III, 26, address unknown, with going armed with intent (class D felony), criminal mischief-fourth degree (serious misdemeanor), assault-simple, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana-second offense.* Anthony Wayne Genovese, 23, address unknown, and Hollie Jericka Millard, 23, address unknown, have been charged with criminal mischief-fourth degree*. The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 10, at 505 W. Washington Street in Jefferson. The three had been allowed to stay at the residence. Upon being evicted, the three are accused of damaging property within the residence and the residence itself. Genovese is accused of threatening the victim with a golf club in an aggressive manner and using the golf club to damage a vehicle. Items associated with illegal drug use allegedly connected to Genovese were also found within the residence.

Thursday, Aug. 14: At 7:28 pm an officer picked up an abandoned bicycle from Casey’s (N. Elm). At 7:53 pm a complainant reported her vehicle had been scratched between 5 and 6 pm while parked in the 200 block of N. Locust Street. At 7:58 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief done to the hood of a Chevrolet Blazer that had occurred within the previous 24 hours at an unknown location.
Wednesday, Aug. 13: At 8:29 am a burglary was reported at McAtee Tire. The building was entered and a safe was stolen. There was no sign of forced entry to the building. At 8:13 pm an officer was requested to look for a vehicle that had been involved in areported roll-over accident at County Road E-53 and Quint St east of Jefferson that had left the area without reporting the incident.
Tuesday, Aug. 12: At 4:20 pm an officer picked up a bicycle abandoned at the Greene County fairgrounds.
Monday, Aug. 11: At 1:18 pm an officer was advised of an assault taking place at a residence in the 200 block of E. Monroe Street. The officer arrested Christina Chapman, 22, of Jefferson and charged her with careless driving, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and interference with official acts *. At 6:34 pm several complaints were received of a green Chevrolet truck being driven in a reckless manner in the southwest portion of town. The driver of the vehicle has been identified. The incident remains under investigation. At 6:42 pm a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 100 block of E. Central St. The mobile home had been entered and a Dewalt drill and other items had been stolen. At 8 pm an officer investigated a hit and run accident in the Casa De Oro parking lot. A 2008 Toyota Highlander owned by Warren Jantz had been parked in the lot when a light blue passenger car backed from a parking stall and struck the rear bumper of Jantz’s vehicle, causing an estimated $500 in damage. The incident remains under investigation. Pursuant to a reported assault that took place Aug 10 at a residence in the 700 block of N. Cedar St, warrants have been issued charging Jamie Biggart, 39, of Jefferson with two counts of assault – serious misdemeanor*.
Sunday, Aug. 10: At 12:49 am a complainant reported an assault at a residence in the 700 block of N. Cedar St. As a result of an investigation, Matthew Cummings, 27, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct*. Additional charges are pending at this time for another party involved. At 12:26 pm the Dallas County sheriff’s office requested assistance in contacting a local resident regarding the alleged theft of items from a motel room in DeSoto. At 2:44 pm officers were requested by the Greene County sheriff’s office to attempt to locate a vehicle that had driven through the ditch at Spring Lake Park. Officers located the vehicle at Casey’s (N. Elm). Upon officers approaching the store, two males fled through an emergency exit. Officers pursued the males on foot. One of the males was tazed and taken into custody in the 500 block of N. Oak St. The other was taken into custody in the 300 block of W. Reed St. Aaron Joseph Skalla, 23, of Jefferson, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for probation revocation and charged additionally with interference with official acts*. Skalla was evaluated at the Greene County Medical Center and then booked into jail. Jared Dean Dennhardt, 25, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with interference with official acts*. At 2:46 pm a complainant reported a male breaking a windshield on a vehicle with a golf club at a residence in the 500 block of W. Washington St. A Greene County sheriff’s deputy initially responded to the call as officers were tied up with the previous arrest. The male who had damaged the vehicle fled the area wearing a pair of boxer shorts. Upon their arrival, officers determined that property within the residence had been damaged and suspected illegal controlled substances were located. Officers were told that the complainant had allowed the subjects to stay at the residence but then had advised them they needed to leave prior to the events taking place. Numerous charges are pending at this time.
Saturday, Aug. 9: At 6:26 am Juan Guzman reported a domestic abuse assault had taken place at a residence in the 700 block of S. Elm St. The complainant told the officer he had become upset with his girlfriend and had struck her in the face with his fist. Juan Angel Guzman, 27, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault – simple*. At 3:49 pm a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1000 block of W. Wall Street pursuant to an investigation initiated on July 31 at a residence in the 400 block W. Brackett Street. At 4:06 pm a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1400 block of Southfield Drive pursuant to that same July 31 investigation.
Friday, Aug. 8: At 12:53 pm a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 700 block of W. Monroe Street. The residence appeared to have been entered but nothing was found missing. At 1:19 pm a complainant reported a burglary and theft of prescription medication from a residence in the 400 block of N. Chestnut St. At 1:22 pm a complainat reported a cow in the roadway in the 1300 block of S. Elm Street. At 7:17 pm a traffic stop in the 300 block of E. Lincoln Way resulted in the arrest of Nickolas Brown, 18, of Jefferson, for driving while revoked for OWI test failure*. At 8:02 pm an employee at Dollar General reported the theft of a bag of charcoal valued at $4.75. The identity of the offender is being determined and charges are pending.
Thursday, Aug. 7: At 3:06 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 500 block of N. Oak Street. The complainant reported a neighboring pit bull had attacked his dog in his yard. The animal was deemed vicious and was removed from the community until the owner becomes compliant with ordinances pertained to vicious animals. At 3:28 pm an officer arrested Anthony Kennedy, 32, of Jefferson, on an outstanding warrant for attempted burglary – second degree*.
Wednesday, Aug. 6: At 10:47 am a complainant at Doc’s Stadium Bar and Grill reported suspicious activity that had occurred within the business overnight. After completion of an investigation initiated on Aug. 1, at a residence in the 200 block of N. West St, a warrant has been issued charging Terry Wain Ritter, 73, of Yale with assault-simple*.
Tuesday, Aug. 5: At 12:55 am a complainant reported a male dressed in all black in the alley in the 200 block of E. Adams St hitting things with a baseball yelling threatening epithets. When located, the subject fled from the officer. The incident remains under investigation. At 2:49 am an officer was contacted by staff at Greene County Medical Center of a Dana resident who was released from the hospital but had no ride home. The officer located the subject at Grimmell Road and Highway 30. The officer gave the subject a ride to Sparkys where he was given a ride home by a deputy sheriff. At 5:43 pm a complainant reported identity theft through Facebook. At 9:32 pm an officer was advised of the driver of a black Mustang with Missouri plates asking local residents in the downtown area where they could obtain illegal controlled substances. At 10:06 pm an officer was advised of a male on the ground yelling at E. Washington and N. Locust St. The officer found a male who had fallen off of his bicycle. The officer arrested William Lawrence, 43, of Jefferson and charged him with public intoxication – third or subsequent offense, an aggravated misdemeanor*. Pursuant to a complaint of a domestic disturbance on July 31 at a residence in the 300 block of S. Locust Street, warrants have been issued charging Tara Jo Surrell, 23, and Christina Ellen Chapman, 22, both of Jefferson, with assault – simple*.
Monday, Aug. 4: At 9:42 am a complainant reported the theft of medication from a residence in the 500 block of S. Wilson. At 12:36 pm an officer was asked to assist with a probation visit at a residence in the 300 block of W. Wilson. Items related to the use of illegal controlled substances were found. Arthur Henry Chambers, 45, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia*. Chambers was transported to the Greene County jail. At 4 pm an officer investigated a personal injury traffic collision at W. Lincoln Way and Vine St. Donald Franey was eastbound on Lincoln Way. Kristy Stoner was southbound on Vine. Stoner stopped as posted and entered the intersection, but struck Franey’s vehicle. Franey was transported by Greene County EMS for evaluation at Greene County Medical Center. Stoner was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to Stoner’s 2006 Buick Lucerne was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Franey’s 1995 Oldsmobile Ciera was estimated at $2,000. At 11:51 pm an officer picked up two abandoned bicycles lying in the grass on the west sideof the Webb House.
Sunday, Aug. 3: At 4:30 pm a complainant reported ongoing harassment by a male occurring at Dollar General.
Saturday, Aug. 2: At 3:34 pm a complainant reported the theft of a portable air conditioner from a residence in the 300 block of N. Wilson Street. At 4:36 pm an officer assisted with a traffic collision at S Ave and Highway 30.
Friday, Aug. 1: A complainant reported an assault and child custody issue at a residence in the 200 block of N. West Street. Charges are pending at this time. At 9:40 am a resident reported an abandoned dirt bike lying in the ditch in the 900 block of W. Russell Street. The dirt bike was impounded.
